Tips to be a more cultured Traveler

I love going off the beaten path and exploring what the area has to offer. I feel like this gives me more of a sense of the real culture when I visit some of the less touristy locations. Typically, going further up or down a few miles from the touristy spots are where you can start feeling a different vibe. Seeking out local flavor, popular favorite restaurants, cafes and markets that the locals frequent are usually on my agenda first. Local markets offer unique, fresh ingredients that are native to the land. I always try a different fruit, vegetable or spice.

We gain insight different than our own, broadening our horizons and opening our minds to be more curious, courageous and considerate with what's around us.  In my perspective it helps  to create a more peaceful, tolerant and accepting world bringing us together as a global community which is what inspired me to make a post about being a cultured traveler who seeks diverse in your interest to really have a soulful experience. If that's what you're looking for. Some People just like being in a designated location near the hotel they're staying in and that's it.

A cultured traveler is one who observes the world thru the narratives of the locals who live there. It means understanding that each destination has its own unique culture, history and stories. It gives us the opportunity to appreciate the different ways of life and the unique beauty of each place.  Listening to different perspectives as well as a healthy exchange of dialogue about where you're from and what its like to live where you are when visiting is so important in our evolution as humans because it allows us to gain a deeper understanding and a more holistic view about the people of that country and ours.

Here are some tips to make the most of your cultural experience when traveling:

  • Learn about the history of the places you will be visiting. Read about the culture, customs, and traditions beforehand to better understand the people you will be encountering.

The importance of leaving a place better than you found it when you travel

Traveling gives us the opportunity to explore different ways of life. One of the motto's that have stuck with me for the past ten years I've been in apart of the surf culture is "When traveling, have fun, respect the locals and leave a place better than you found it". Not only does this make the place look better for future visitors, but it also shows respect for the people living there and helps to maintain the environment.

Examples of leaving a place better than you find it include picking up trash, respecting the local laws, and leaving no trace of your visit. Using sustainable products that are eco-friendly especially sunscreens and mosquito repellents. If you smoke cigarettes, try to smoke less too. Being mindful of not polluting environments that take pride in their lands biodiversity should be observed. Donating your time to local centers. Sending their local organizations clothes and supplies.  This is a great way to show respect to the people and places you visit while traveling and helps ensure that future visitors can also enjoy the beauty of the area.

Don't be afraid to ask questions and talk to the locals to get a real sense of the culture to create a truly soulful and flavorful experience.  Following these tips can help you make the most of your cultural experience when traveling and learn more about the world.  Here's more on the subject of creating a cultured lifestyle https://www.creativelycultured.com/2023/01/here-are-10-steps-to-inspire-your.html
